Heartburn…reflux…GERD…by whatever name you call it: bad by day…worse by night…can begin to dictate one’s behaviors. Timing when you eat, what you eat, how quickly you eat…in what position you sleep.
For the sleep issue, raising the head of the bed is an oft heard suggestion. Here’s another: sleeping on your left side puts the stomach in the lower position with less stress on the sphincter so stomach contents drain back more easily.
DGL, Deglycyrrhizinated licorice is a very helpful supplement easily found in health food stores. Drinking aloe juice mixed with water is another. Baking soda mixed with water can bring relief.
I have found the best long-term solution so that you don’t need even herbs no less medication is eating an alkaline diet which means significantly reducing acidic foods like animal proteins, wheat, dairy and sugar. Dr Robert Young’s book, The pH Miracle (I prefer the July 2010 edition) guides you toward eating alkaline to reduce inflammation with clear explanations and recipes. If you have heartburn you most likely have other inflammatory issues as well. The alkaline way of eating addresses them all.
At the Liphe Balance Center in Weston, CT, where the director, Barbara Slaine and I, coach alkaline Liquid Feast education cleanses, we have seen lives change dramatically due to shifts in eating. You can go to LipheBalance.com to read more about them.
Long term usage of acid reducing pharmaceuticals is not good for your bones. Take charge of your wellness naturally with healthful eating and anti-inflammatory herbs.
Do share these important findings with everyone you know. It’s a blessing to be able to help one another.
Until next time…stay healthy, think peace, be love and see love in everyone!
